Portrait of a Borana girl, Ethiopia

Yabelo is a town in southern Ethiopia. Located northwest of Moyale in the Borena Zone of Oromia, the town sits at an elevation of 1,857 meters above sea level. The locality is also known as Obda, named after a nearby mountain.
The Oromo language—also referred to as Oromiffa—is an Afro-Asiatic language spoken primarily in Ethiopia. While some sources classify it as a family of related languages rather than a single language, numerous variants or dialects exist. These variants differ largely due to the influence of languages from regions neighboring their respective areas.
In Ethiopia, for instance, Oromo variants often incorporate words of Cushitic origin.

Portrait of a South Asian Woman

This portrait captures the intensity and life story of an elderly woman from the rural regions of South Asia—an area spanning India and Pakistan. Her image serves as a valuable visual record of local customs and craftsmanship. The dark head covering she wears is a key traditional garment, similar to a *dupatta*, while her nose ornament (*nath*) is a deeply rooted cultural piece of jewelry that often signifies community affiliation or social status. Together, these elements bear witness to a living connection with the ancient traditions of the region.
