Portrait of a woman at the Holi Festival in Barsana, India
Holi is a religious festival where it is customary to douse one another in colored powders, honoring an Indian ritual that symbolizes rebirth and reincarnation. The Holi Festival—or Festival of Colors—has evolved into an event where club music and colored powders create a festive atmosphere that is hugely popular among young people. It is celebrated primarily in India, Nepal, and regions with significant communities of Indian origin.
The festival embodies themes such as the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, bidding farewell to winter, connecting with others, and the desire to play, laugh, let go of pain, forgive, and strengthen bonds.
